When it comes to heating and air conditioning equipment, bigger is NOT better. Many contractors will readily sell you a bigger unit than needed. It will costs you more to buy and it will cost a lot more to operate and service. Even worse, an over sized system actually results in a less comfortable home.

There's something that isn't often mentioned in our industry. It's a "dark and dirty" secret, you might say. (And I do mean dirty.) Besides poor installation, the number 1 reason for system failure is dirt. And the reason this isn't exactly well known among homeowners is due to something you'll instantly understand: A new system cost thousands of dollars. Yet a maintenance program to prevent system failure is just pennies on the dollar.

Some contractors offer an unrealistically low price to get the job and then pressure you into paying a lot more once they start. Always be wary of a contractor offering to do the work for much less money than others. The low price you see advertised or are quoted may not be the price you end up paying. To make their prices low, some contractors will also cut corners, improperly install equipment, or neglect important steps completely.
